Snaplings are immature Snap Dragons, cared for communally within colonies after hatching. They begin life particularly vulnerable, remaining blind for their first few weeks and relying upon mature Snaps for food and protection.

Their surroundings appear to influence them remarkably early: young raised around stone buildings may take on stone-like qualities, while those from cities, ruins and other environments develop very different colours and characteristics.

Some eventually mature into familiar local Snap forms; others wander, change and become something altogether stranger.
