Welcome, Hunter! 

Rust Scale Trails are a new series of interactive adventures that bring together the stories, characters and folklore of Hidden Dragons Norfolk with real locations and their history.

Rather than simply reading about the world of Beastly Boxes, you'll have the opportunity to explore it for yourself, travelling between locations, solving clues and making decisions that determine where your adventure takes you next.

Our October Trail is the first time we've attempted something like this. We hadn't originally planned to release one quite so early, but with Halloween approaching, we thought it was a good opportunity to see what we could accomplish.

We're hoping to learn from it. There may be a few rough edges, but we hope you'll enjoy what we've put together. Your feedback will help us improve the experience and develop more trails across Norfolk in the future.

 How Does It Work? 

The trail is a choose-your-own-path adventure, taking place across a number of historical locations in Norwich.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Travel to your destination. Each stage of the trail will direct you towards a real location in Norwich.
  2. Find the answer. Once you arrive, you'll be presented with a question. The answer can be found by exploring your surroundings and paying attention to the details.
  3. Enter the password. Use your answer to unlock the next part of the story. This helps confirm you've actually visited the location.
  4. Discover what happens next. Each unlocked page will reveal more of the story, introduce characters or provide information about the place you're visiting.
  5. Choose your next destination. You'll usually be offered two possible routes. Whichever you choose will determine where your investigation takes you next.

You won't need to visit every location to complete the trail. Different routes offer different encounters, but all eventually lead towards the same conclusion.

There may also be a few things worth remembering along the way. You never know what might prove useful to the Guild in future.

 A Few Rules Before You Begin 

Please respect the locations you're visiting. The trail takes place around real historical buildings, churches and public spaces. You shouldn't need to disturb anything or access restricted areas to solve the clues.

Be mindful of your surroundings. Norwich is a working city, so please take care around roads, pedestrians and other visitors.

Take your time. There's no time limit, and you don't need to complete the entire adventure in one visit. Feel free to stop, explore and come back to it later.

Keep the story to yourself. We'd love to hear about your adventure, but please try not to share the answers or spoil the discoveries for other Hunters.

Remember that this is an experiment! We're trying something new, and we'd really appreciate your feedback once you've finished. We want to continue building Rust Scale Trails, introducing more characters, locations and stories as the world of Beastly Boxes develops.

The October Trail will also offer rewards during its initial run, with the intention of keeping the adventure available for new Hunters to discover beyond the launch period.

Once you've arrived, find the answer to the question below and enter it as your password.

This will unlock your first encounter and introduce you to the mystery you'll be investigating.

From that point onwards, the choices are yours.
